Tuesday afternoon we explored some in the mountains. B took me to two really cool places: Clingman's Dome and Newfound Gap. Clingman's Dome is the highest point on the Appalachian Trail. It's so high!
I have a slight fear of heights, so I was pretty overwhelmed... and this was just the parking lot! We had to hike another 1/2 mile to the top.
The Appalachian Trail crosses right through the trail to the top. I walked a little ways down, so I guess now I can say I've hiked a portion of the AT! ; ) hehe!
When you get to the top of the mountain, you still have to walk a little further to the observation tower. I was nervous on the way up, but it was worth the hike! The views were breathtaking.
There is a 360 degree view from the top. You can see into Tennessee and up to 100 miles on a clear day! These are the views from the North, West, East & South. I know it is cliche to say, but I really was just amazed at the mountains, the sky and all the beauty around me. I couldn't help but just think of how God created this beautiful place for us to live in and to enjoy. It really just made me feel very small, and very humbled.
"When I consider Your heavens, the work of Your fingers, the moon and the stars, which You have set in place, what is mankind that you are mindful of them, human beings that you care for them?" Psalm 8:3-4
The next place we went was Newfound Gap. It is right on the Tennessee/North Carolina Border.
It seriously didn't look real. The leaves were starting to change colors and the sky was so blue!
I used to be a beach person, but I think I'm slowly becoming a "mountain" person : )
We headed out to explore more of the park and then stopped for a picnic lunch. I love this place so much. I cannot wait to go back!
